Get Your Head Out of The Mud

Dear Someone,

This letter is for. You that’s feeling more in love with your memory than the person standing in front of you. You that’s forever observing love, forever wishing to be loved, and forever never being loved. You that’s hurt from having someone in your heart but you can’t have them in your arms. You that’s wondering and asking how to act serene when your heart has been shredded to pieces. I am encouraging you — the one who found this letter of hope – that you have to stop being afraid of things you don’t know and things you don’t have control over. Love comes very slow and most times goes very fast. It’s like a fire, it burns everyone and it’s capable of destroying everyone. Fortunately, you are what you love, not who loves you. Don’t become so obsessed with finding someone to love you because you can’t love yourself.

You’ve spent so much time living in survival mode when actually, you owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people. Learn to be picky with who you invest in because wasted time is worse than wasted money. I know it’s not possible for you to know every Judas who’s kissing you on the cheek, but you must trust that God knows their lips and He’ll wipe it from your face. It’s okay if the ones you love don’t need you. It’s okay if they don’t consider you to be worthy of their love. It’s okay if they see you as a burden. It’s okay to feel the way you feel even after you have loved him or her on bad days when they don’t feel loved. Don’t stop being a good person because of how they treated you. You are not in this world to live up to their expectations. People may hurt your heart, but God will heal your heart.

You that’s so broken to the point that being okay feels wrong, you that’s forever saying nothing goes your way, you that’s saying to yourself, “this is my story…”, you that can’t explain these too many feelings that’s ravaging you, I want you to offer yourself the same forgiveness that you have shared with others because you deserve it. When you do, you will be happy again. The simple fact that you care, that you want to do your best, that you strive to enjoy life and love, this makes you so much more than enough. You may be delayed trying to find true love but you have not been denied. God has something great in store for you. His plan for you shall come to pass and it will not be lost. Tears might be near – but joy comes in the morning. “That situation will not last forever. God will have the last word.” (1 Peter 5:8–11).

Until next time, get your head out of the mud and never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart (Proverbs 3:3) because everything passes and everything changes. May you know the steps to take ahead of time. May God restore the things that were lost or stolen and make them whole again!

In Him,
~Ali Papa.
