Breath and Be

Dear Someone,

I read your email, and I am assuming that you already know why I am sending you this letter. You can’t always wait for the perfect time, or to be perfectly prepared for what doesn’t have your name on it. Sometimes you just have to jump or let go by teaching your heart to accept what cannot be changed. You can’t continue to wait for the “perfect” time to know what’s real. “Perfect” does not exist. It will never come and life is too short to wonder what could have been.

Let go, or be dragged. You don’t deserve to fall asleep at night wondering why you weren’t enough. You don’t deserve to be broken to make people whole. Don’t let anyone ever makes you feel you don’t deserve what you want. Your heart is not engraved with anyone’s name on it. It only has blood vessels. Don’t lose yourself trying to love someone else. Don’t lose yourself just because you found somebody. How long they choose to love you will never be your decision. Don’t lose yourself looking for love and don’t lose yourself trying to fit in a world you don’t belong to.

The future doesn’t have anyone’s name on it, it may as well be yours. If you don’t like something in your life, change it rather than complaining. Don’t lose yourself in something that doesn’t matter. Give yourself permission to do the things you enjoy. Give yourself permission to evolve. You don’t have to stay in any relationship, job, or situation that no longer fits you. Give yourself permission to be a work in progress! Do your best to notice just how much you’ve gotten right.

A bullet doesn’t have anyone’s name on it. Stay safe wherever you are and stay the course — dangerous conditions persists out there. Slow down if you need to, ask questions when in doubt, have fun, be intentional about how you spend your time, and try new things. And if you can’t be intentional, choose to leave instead, quit putting yourself in arms way. Quit putting yourself in places you don’t belong. Quit putting yourself in positions that make you miserable. You can’t keep reading the same chapter over and over and hoping for a different ending. Quit putting yourself in the same situations and going back to the same people expecting a different result. You won’t ever have to force what’s real. Ever!

Opportunity doesn’t have anyone’s name on it. Stop complaining and start positioning yourself. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be faithful in your attempts. Don’t wait for anyone or handouts from your family. Don’t wait for anyone’s permission to be great. Don’t wait for anyone’s approval to be awesome! Launch your idea. Don’t wait for anyone to do it for you. Time flies, grab it while you can.

The trophy doesn’t have anyone’s name on it. Play like you have nothing to lose. Your place of blessing, your place of peace won’t always be joyous as you have seen. The truth is that challenges will come. At such moments, always remember where you are going. The challenges are not for your disadvantage but to strengthen you. Have faith and know that things that were broken or cracked or not functioning correctly shall be restored and made whole in Jesus’ Name.

Until I hear from you again, when anger comes to you, control your tongue and hands. If the envelope doesn’t have your name on it then you don’t have to read it. You know why, the backhand doesn’t have anyone’s name on it as well. You can get it. Control your tongue in that situation, do whatever you are supposed to do now and the rest will unfold. Proverbs 13:3 says, “Guard your words and you’ll guard your life, but if you don’t control your tongue, it will ruin everything.”

Please know that in your remarkable struggle to tell your story, come out of that toxic relationship and keep the faith, you are not alone. Thousands of Vistas of Hope tribe members share your pain — I am one of them. May God open more doors for you that are so much better than the ones that were closed. May every unexpected victories that are on the way show up for you.

With Love & Regard,
~Ali Papa.
