Don’t Be So Down On Yourself

Dear Someone,

This letter is for you, you that’s been judged by people who only know your name and not your story. You that’s been judged by people you don’t even know simply because of your last name and for things that your family members have done way before you were born or thought of. You that have always been judged by people for just one mistake you’ve accidentally done. This letter is for you, you that have been judged by people you care about, ignored by those who said they’d never leave and hurt by the ones you love the most.

You have come a long way from where and when it all started, filled with difficulties and joy. You have come a long way from what used to break you down. You have come a long way from the early days of that separation or divorce. You have come a long way from crying your eyes to sleep every night. You have come a long way from surviving that heartbreak and overcoming loneliness. You have come a long way from the days when you used to think of where the next meal was going to come from.

You have come a long way from those days you were broke and didn’t have much. You have come a long way from those times you sat alone with no one to talk to. You have come a long way from the seasons that you would wish things would get better. You have come a long way from those times when you spent your time with this person that doesn’t contact you anymore. You have come a long way from those times when they make you happy just because they’re noticing you and now it is gone. You have come a long way from those times when you tried your best to hold on to what you knew was destroying you. You have come a long way from those times when your best friends changed to acquaintances. You have come a long way from when you used to see yourself as a nobody. You have come a long way from when you were helpless and without hope. You have come a long way, you have scaled through hurdles, you have seen the best of times but you still have a long way to go.

If you are still reading this letter and this describes your situation, I want you to know that other people’s opinion of you are not your medicine. While I don’t have enough words to comfort you, I want to encourage you never to allow society to turn you into a person you are not. And as always, remember that life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful. Psalms 34:19 says, “Many (including your current situation) are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all”.

Irrespective of how you have been judged, never forget that life is too deep for you to be judged with shallow eyes from people who want to assume the role of God in your life. They may judge you or criticize you because of your appearance, your past mistakes or who you are related to but the good news is that God is NOT finished with you yet, God is not limited to what you can see with your physical eyes. God is not surprised by your inabilities, your imperfections, or your faults. God is not waiting around to beat you up about sin. Let those that want to criticize who they think you are continue to do so knowing that God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.

Today, more than ever before, never give up. Always find a reason to keep trying. Always find a reason to keep going and live your life. Always find a reason to smile regardless of your situation. Always find a reason to be thankful. Always find a reason to wear that outfit. Always find a reason to compliment someone. Always find a reason to change for the better. Always find a reason to get out of bed and always find a reason to love yourself and others.

For those that always find a reason to be with you, love them. For those that will always find a reason to bring you down, forgive them. For those that will always find a reason to hate you, don’t allow their attitude towards you to become drama in your Spirit. You may have slipped, but God is not going to allow you to fall.

I don’t know how soon I will write to you again, but until then, never allow the chaos around you to override the calm that’s supposed to be within you. Never allow the negative news around you to become drama in your Spirit. Never allow the issues of life cause you to lose the peace that only God can give. More importantly, always remember that no one was there when God picked you up from that pain, rejection, agony, traumatic divorce, abuse and or depression.

May that burden that you have been dealing with silently as a result of this incident suddenly disappear from you in Jesus Name. May God fill you with endurance, if you are finding it hard to walk in peace because your path currently feels difficult. May God help you to stay grounded, trusting that He will provide an answer to your next big move. May what the enemy said wouldn’t happen for you, happen in Jesus’ name, Amen.

In His Service,
Ali Papa.
